Getting your teeth aligned has never been more convenient. From clear aligners like Invisalign to traditional and aesthetic braces, there are already plenty of options to choose from! Now, adding to the variety is Brava by BRIUS, one of the latest orthodontic systems on the market known for being both aesthetic and efficient.
What Is Brava?
Brava by BRIUS, is an “invisible” and aesthetic AI-assisted orthodontic system designed to straighten teeth independently and simultaneously. It does this by using Brava’s proprietary Independent Mover Technology with pre-programmed biomechanics, which helps to significantly improve the treatment experience for patients.
The Brava Process
- Your Brava journey begins with your orthodontist examining your teeth and discussing your individual teeth positions. This includes any misalignment, or crowding that you may want to improve.
- A 3D digital scan of your mouth is then taken and uploaded into Brava’s planning software. This scan maps the exact position of every tooth and is submitted to Brava’s specialised software. Your Orthodontist then uses Brava’s proprietary Independent Mover™ Technology to customise your treatment plan, moving each tooth to its ideal position.
- Your personalised Brava device will then be created with shape memory Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) and bonded to the back of your teeth by your orthodontist. Once in place, Brava applies a constant, gentle force to move each tooth independently to its ideal position.
For many patients, once this process is completed, no further adjustments are necessary! All that is required is periodic visits to your orthodontist to track your progress.
Benefits of using Brava
1. Fast and efficient
Brava uses Independent Mover™ technology and algorithms to give each tooth its own movement plan. Its shape memory, NiTi, exerts a consistent, light pressure on each tooth to shift it directly to its ideal position. This makes Brava much more precise and quicker* than many other orthodontic devices, as each tooth moves independently.
*Treatment length depends on your specific dental needs. Do contact your orthodontist for more information.
2. Less hassle
With no wires connecting your teeth together, brushing and flossing becomes easier! Plus, since the same system stays attached throughout your entire treatment, you don’t need to worry about making extra trips to your dental clinic for adjustments.
3. Discreet
Since the Brava device is entirely hidden behind your teeth, it remains unseen throughout the length of your treatment. So you can expect unhindered smiles before, during, and after treatment!
Commonly Asked Questions About Brava By BRIUS
1. What are Independent Movers?
Independent Movers are Brava’s patented biomechanical technology that allows for independent and simultaneous movement of your teeth. Made of shape-memory NiTi (nickel titanium) arms, and programmed with proprietary algorithms, Brava’s Independent Movers apply a constant and gentle force to each tooth. This efficiently and independently moves each tooth to its ideal position. That’s why they’re called Independent Movers!
2. Why is Brava’s treatment faster?
With Brava, your orthodontist designs your ideal smile, and Brava programs the shortest possible path to achieve it. Once bonded to your teeth, Brava’s Independent Mover technology applies a gentle, continuous force to each tooth independently, taking into account the specific order and timing for each tooth to move.
This 24/7 independent and simultaneous movement of teeth can result in faster treatment.
3. Why is Brava an improvement over braces?
Brava works discreetly, hidden behind your teeth, and does not require a central wire that needs frequent adjustments. This means potentially fewer appointments and faster treatment times, which make it an appealing alternative to traditional braces.
4. How do I brush and floss my teeth with Brava?
Since Brava is positioned behind your teeth and away from the contact points between your teeth, you can brush and floss your teeth normally.
However, a little extra attention can always go a long way! Consider brushing your teeth with an electric toothbrush or a soft bristle brush three times a day, for three minutes at a time. Focus on brushing each tooth for 3 to 4 seconds each, angling the brush up for the upper teeth and down for the lower teeth. Incorporating a water flosser may also help get any remaining food or debris that may be stuck to your Brava device or your teeth.
5. What food should I avoid while wearing Brava?
Avoid any food that is hard, crunchy, or sticky to avoid damaging your device for at least 5 hours after getting your Brave device installed. Start with soft foods like pasta and smoothies, and give yourself about a day to adjust.
As you get used to your device, you may return to a modified food routine:
- Avoid chomping into harder foods like carrots or apples. Cut them into slices for easier consumption
- Use small ice chips as ice if you wish to have them in your mouth, not whole cubes.
- Cut meat from bones (i.e., ribs) before eating.
- Never open nuts with your teeth.
- Avoid the consumption of sticky foods.
6. Is Brava comfortable?
Just like any orthodontic device, Brava requires an adjustment period. With Brava, this typically takes around 2 weeks. You may experience tongue discomfort or initial changes in speech. However, since Brava does not require any painful adjustments of wire tightenings after installation, there’s no need to acclimate a second time!
7. Can I play a musical instrument or engage in contact sports with Brava?
Yes you can! For contact sports, simply wear a mouthguard. You can get one fitted after your Brava device is installed. This will provide your Brava with some added protection from any possible impact.
If you’re playing a wind instrument, here’s the good news: Brava shouldn’t interfere! While you should still expect an adjustment period, with some practice, you’ll return to playing normally.
